Sailing is also very popular, with boats available for hire. There are also a number of smaller lakes situated within 10km of the town, which have excellent course and trout fishing.

If you're a golfer who likes to stroll in the footsteps of the biggest names in your sport then Mullingar Golf Club cannot be ignored Mullingar's' 18 hole championship course, situated near Lough Ennell is one of the most popular inland courses in the country. Every year, it hosts one of the top competitions for amateur golfers in the country - the Mullingar Scratch Cup.

For many years Greyhound racing has been a great attraction in Mullingar, and with the newly refurbished stadium opened this year, it is becoming even more so.
